My name is Caitlin Alexandria Lee and I am running for the Young Labour Scotland seat to organise young people in the fight for a socialist future. I’m proud to be standing with the support of Momentum and trade unionists to fight for a socialist future.
I am from the West Coast of Scotland and have seen the consequences of political decisions that are not taken by or for working-class people. As a young woman worker in mostly hospitality jobs I have worked in jobs with zero hour contracts and workplaces that put profit before the workers. I am the branch chair of Unite Hospitality in Glasgow, as such I know the power of industrial organising. I have organised a branch of over 2000 workers in Glasgow.
My main aim is to empower young people to take a stand against the injustices we face. In trade unions we don’t wait for an election cycle to fight for what we need in the workplace – we organise. We need to be using our power as an organised group to grow it, in our communities, workplaces and governments. That is the approach I will bring to Young Labour.
