FOR LABOUR STUDENTS DISABLED MEMBERS
After years of struggle we can finally re-found Labour Students as a democratic, socialist student wing. I’m standing for Labour Students Disabled Rep to take this opportunity to build a Labour Students that stands up for young, trans, Muslim and disabled members.
From women’s rep at my home ‘red wall’ branch; to growing Sheffield Labour Students into the largest national student club as co-chair; to being elected the youngest ever Sheffield City Councillor. I’m proud of my 10 years of experience in our movement standing on picket lines and taking direct action.
As Disabled Rep, I’ll create a national caucus for our disabled members; to platform, coordinate and demonstrate accessible activism. Through our caucus I’ll embed event accessibility policy into the new committee, and create baseline requirements and guidance for university clubs to facilitate disabled members’ access.
This is an opportunity to give clubs institutional memory, support and resources. By identifying barriers for disabled members, we can remove them and create independence, choice and control for them – applying the social model of disability within our re-founded campaigning student wing.
I’m proud to be standing with the support of Momentum and trade unionists to fight for a socialist future.
