Alex Charilaou

Hi, I’m Alex (they/him). As a non-binary student member living and studying in Canterbury, I know how painful it continues to be for trans and non-binary members in the Labour Party. Our strength and determination has been remarkable, and we deserve a fighting Labour Students that represents us.

I’m standing for Trans Officer to make sure our work on Labour Students combats transphobia and prejudice across the labour movement. I will work steadfastly on political education materials and run workshops on trans issues to make Labour Students as welcoming as possible for LGBTQ+ communities.

I’m also standing to ensure Labour Students champions socialist solutions to the problems students are facing. To give students power, we need to demarketise and democratise universities – I’ve led on this work at my university, and if elected I would help similar student-led movements across the UK. I will also seek to build relationships with trade unions like UCU based on solidarity and respect.

Together, we will refound Labour students as a trans-inclusive, socialist organisation that fights for the solutions students desperately need.

I am proud to be standing with the support of Momentum and trade unionists to fight for a socialist future.

Fight for a socialist future. Join the campaign.
